The United Way Hastings and Prince Edward is in the final stretch of their campaign with just two weeks left to raise $2.25 million. With a shortfall of $100,000, every dollar counts to support essential services.

TOP STORY

A Nuclear Announcement ☢️

It was just announced that Ontario is considering a new nuclear power plant near Port Hope. Key highlights from the article include:

  • Wesleyville Site: Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is assessing the Wesleyville site for a potential new nuclear-generating station.

  • Capacity: The site could support up to 10,000 megawatts of nuclear generation, enough to power 10 million homes.

  • Economic Impact: The project is expected to contribute $235 billion to Ontario’s GDP over 95 years and create 10,500 jobs across the province, with 1,700 new jobs in Port Hope alone.

Yes, it’s not directly within the Bay of Quinte area, however developments like this could have significant impacts on the surrounding areas, including where we live. Full story including funding for the project can be seen here. InQuinte

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

FOODIE FRIDAY

Restaurant Of The Week - Reader Recommendations

We love discovering hidden gems and sharing them with you, especially when they come from our readers! The first ever Foodie Friday feature comes from BOQtoday reader Courtney Evans - or as thousands know her on instagram as, @girldrinkswine, who recently shared her love for Darlings in Bloomfield. Here’s what she had to say:

Darlings is one of my favourite restaurants in the PEC/BOQ region! Their pizza and pasta (and honestly everything else on the menu) is absolutely delicious. And I'm not the only one who thinks so - Darlings was named one of the top 10 new restaurants in Canada in 2023! As someone who has eaten here many times, I highly recommend trying their pizza, rigatoni and margaritas. This spot can get busy, so a reservation is always a good idea. Enjoy!
