Porchfest breakdown, and more

šŸ Gooood morning everybody!

In today’s buzz;

  • Porchfest breakdown

  • Why not head to Tweed this weekend?

  • Big honour for a small town theatre

    and more…

Before we dive in, earlier this week I asked where to go for chicken wings in a Facebook neighbours group (always some interesting commentary, let me tell ya!). That caused quite the debate - where is the best place to get a basket of drums n flats?Let’s get some real results here, shall we? We’ll post the winner in next week’s newsletter. Share with friends to see what they think.

The Digest

šŸŽøšŸ” Porchfest
Sept 28
Old East Hill, Belleville

Porchfest is almost here. I once heard someone call it ā€œBelleville’s homecomingā€ and I can’t help but to think that it really does feel like that sort of vibe - in the best way. You’ve got your yeti cup full, family and friends around, the tunes are echoing in the Easthill streets as you cruise around from porch to porch and watch some of the regions most amazing local artists - performing all kinds of different genres. We checked in with Porchfest organizer, Rotary Club of Belleville member, and most importantly, vocalist of the Impish Grins - Sam Brady about Porchfest. Here’s a summary of what he had to say.

Brief History
Started in 2009 by Ken Hudson and Lucinda Pritchard until 2014. Porchfest has grown to 60 venues and is organized by Sam Brady and the Rotary Club.

Schedule
Morning Kickoff
10 AM: Start your day at East Hill Park with a family concert by Andy Forgie.

12 PM: Head over to the Glanmore House for another concert, featuring some newcomers.

Opening Ceremonies
Ceremony will be brief and sweet, with swag like Porchfest buttons and guitar picks.

Main Event (1pm - 4pm):
60+ artists across all genres—heavy metal, a cappella, pop, folk, you name it! Walk around the beautiful old East Hill, enjoy the music, and soak in the community vibes.

Afterparty (4pm)
Move downtown for more tunes with Big Black Smoke, and keep the party going until 9:30 PM with Ed’s Garage.

Porchfest Checklist

  • Bring a travel mug for drinks.

  • Wagon for belongings.

  • Grab a $35 T-shirt from the Rotary Club of Belleville at Queen Street and Bleecker Avenue.

  • Lawn chair.

  • Support local groups like the Girl Guides selling cookies and hockey teams running barbecues.

  • Appreciation for these awesome artists!

It’s all volunteer-driven, zero budget event, showcasing the amazing community spirit of Belleville. The event supported by the City of Belleville, Snap360, the Glannmore House and the Rotary Club (donations greatfully accepted).

So, park your car, walk around, meet new people, and enjoy a day full of music and fun! Let’s show our support. Full event details here.

🌊 Meyer’s Pier Calls it a Season

Your favourite, local, harbourfront patio wrapped up the season last weekend. In a year which had its ups and downs with weather they made the most of it and the tunes were rockin’, the deep fried pickles were hot and the beer was ice cold. We’ll see you back on the pier next summer!
