And just like that - we're back

Trade talk, MV Sunnavik, ED role open and much more..

Presented By

Gooood morning everybody! We messed up on Monday… Please note this address correction from last newsletter. The actual JYSK Trenton address is 135 Dundas St E, Quinte West. The grand opening is this Saturday.

Luckily that didn’t go out Friday (anxiety much?)

Today Around The Bay:

  • T-talk

  • A new pub in PEC

  • New ED for CSV?

And much more…

The Answer

On Monday we asked 10,000 locals if you freeze cheezies before eating - and it was actually a mixed bag (no-pun intended).

  • 53% of you said no way

  • 16% said yes but keep it a secret (we didn’t)

  • 20% said you don’t eat cheezies (cheezie hatin’)

  • 1 of you said this “I mix Hawkins cheezies with fresh popped popcorn. Fantastic combo!”

💸 What tariffs mean for your Bay of Quinte wallet

Photo: iStock

And just like that — we’re back.

Here’s the deal: As of today, the U.S. has officially slapped 25% tariffs on Canadian goods and 10% tariffs on energy — and Canada’s not backing down. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hit back with a list of retaliatory tariffs covering everything from peanut butter and appliances to clothing and vehicles. ( Narcity )

What it means for your life in the BoQ:

  • Grocery prices? Up. Tariffs are now on American staples like dairy, produce, coffee, and sauces, which could push prices higher at local favourites like Foodland, Metro, and No Frills.

  • Home projects? More expensive. Need new flooring, kitchen appliances, or even some basic tools? Tariffs are hitting building materials, hardware, and home goods.

  • Retail therapy? Watch your cart. Everything from clothing and cosmetics to electronics and sporting goods is getting taxed — so those cross-border brands could see price hikes.

What about the LCBO?

Photo: BOQtoday HQ in Foxboro (greatest village on Earth)

This is where things get dramatic — the LCBO’s website went down yesterday as staff raced to remove every American product from its catalogue, from bourbon and craft beer to canned cocktails. ( Narcity )

The local spin

While this all sounds like bad news, there’s a silver lining for local businesses. With "Buy Canadian" campaigns ramping up, this could be a big moment for Bay of Quinte makers, farmers, and independent shops. So if you’ve been meaning to hit up a local butcher, bakery, or brewery, now’s the time to make the switch.

Want to dive into the full tariff list (it’s long)? Here’s the whole thing — from peanut butter to power tools. (BlogTO)
