You won’t believe it
Presented By
Gooood morning everybody! Bay of Quinte, we need to talk.
We asked what you’d like added to the newsletter. Most of you said normal things like more food reviews, more reader feedback and such. And then… there was this gem:

This is a local newsletter, neighbour… Whoever you are, you’ve clearly got a vision — and probably a velvet chaise lounge.
Let’s dive in.

The Answer
We asked: “What’s the weirdest thing you’ve found in your basement?” These answers were scarier than the stock market this week.
Dad’s fingers in a jar
Found while selling the house. Preserved by mom after a table saw accident. Yep.Snake playing dead
Courtesy of the cat. Picked it up thinking it was a toy. It was not.A duck in the basement
Distressed cat led to a live duck flapping around. It came in through an open window.Handcuffs on a ceiling pipe
No explanation. No follow-up. Just vibes.Mummified white spider
In a pitch-black 1882 crawlspace. The stuff of nightmares.
Thanks for your answers? Not going in our basement for a while…

News Notes
💪 Strong mayors…?
When you hear “strong mayor,” you might picture someone bench-pressing bylaws in City Hall. But in reality, it’s more about fast-tracking housing than lifting weights.
Starting May 1, the mayors of Quinte West and Prince Edward County will get new authority from the province to:
Fast-track housing + infrastructure projects
Override council on certain decisions
Push through budgets and housing-related bylaws
These powers only apply when aligned with provincial priorities, like building more homes. Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis already has these powers and used them in 2023 to rezone the former Banquet Centre site for a housing and services hub. Now, QW + PEC mayors get the same playbook.
